The 24th convention of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) in conjunction with the Pravasi Bharatya Divas in Kerala, India honours Non Resident Indians.
The GOPIO Community Service Awards (GOPIO CSA) was given for outstanding community service, public service and/or significant charitable or philanthropic contributions of benefit to the community. The GOPIO Community Service Awards are given in recognition of outstanding services to the community, society and humanity. The acquisition of wealth, business achievements and positions, academic scholarship, or achievements in any other field of human endeavor are not part of the selection criteria. The award recipient has a broad-based, continuing commitment to community service, public service and/or significant charitable and philanthropic contributions of benefit to the community, as reflected in a variety of activities, programs and initiatives which have served the needs of the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) / People of Indian Origin (PIO) community.
Kerala Governor H R Bhardwaj together with Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs ,Mr . Vayalar Ravi and Cultural Affairs Minister K C Joseph inaugurated the GOPIO International Convention 2013 in conjunction with the Pravasi Bharatya Divas in Kochi on Sunday the 6th of january 2013
Governor of Kerala and Karnataka Hansraj Bhardwaj gave away the GOPIO Community Service Awards 2013 to seven PIOs/NRIs and conferred special recognition on five. The recipients of the awards are Ishwar Ramlutchman (South Africa) , Sunny Augustine (Dubai), George Subraj (USA), Dr Anil Mehta (Netherlands), Ajay Rane (Australia), Vasu Chanchlani (Canada), and Murray Bullock (St Vincent and Grenadines). Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Minister K C Joseph were present at the function.
Mr Ramlutchman dedicates all recognition and awards received, to his Divine Master, Sri Swami Sivananda, founder of the Divine Life Society and Swami Sahajananda, spiritual head of South Africa. He humbly said:”I am thankful to my Beloved Master’s for having blessed me with the golden opportunities in life to serve mankind. It is with their inspiration that i continue to serve the people of my beloved country, South Africa.
